1. Drivers and owners will need to sign a release form at the time of the cars inspection and registration.
2. The use of intoxicating beverages prior to or during the derby disqualifies the car and the crew.
3. Late entries and re-inspection fees of $15.00 additional per car will be assessed (this money is non-refundable) – ONLY 1 re-inspection allowed per car.
4. Cars in any heat/feature may be re-inspected by the head tech official for any reason. Any car found to be illegal at this time of inspection, will be disqualified and other participants will be moved up in their respected slots.
5. NO inspected cars will be allowed to leave the pit area until their particular heat has been run.
6. Personnel working in the announcer’s booth also are legal to “flag” a car and be a part of the judging of the derby.
OFFICIAL RULES FOR BIG AND SMALL CARS
1. Any stock automobile is allowed, including station wagons.
2. Safety belts and approved helmets are required.
3. All glass must be removed before car enters fairgrounds. No glass will be permitted inside the car.
4. Maximum of 5 gallons of gas will be allowed.
5. Gas tank must be removed and placed in the back seat of the vehicle. Under no circumstances will the gas tank be allowed in the passenger seat. TANK MUST BE SECURED AND COVERED,WITH NO BIGGER THAN 24 INCH PROTECTOR. MUST BE 6 INCHES AWAY FROM ANY SHEET METAL.
6. No special bumpers, trailer hitches, or reinforcements will be allowed. You can weld bumper seams.
7. You are allowed to weld the bumper to the shock or remove shock and weld bumper to frame. You may wire bumper in 4 places ONLY, BUT NOT IN FRONT OF RADIATOR.
8. Cars DO NOT have to have a bounce. A FRAMES TO BE LOCKED- OUT WITH NO MORE THAN 2, 3 INCH WIDE 6 INCH LONG STRAPS OR CHAIN INSTALLED VERTICALLY, NOT TO CONTROL THE BENDING OF FRAME.
9. All doors must be fastened shut with wire, weld or straps.
10. Windshield bar is required. NO BAR IN BACK WINDOW.
11. All chrome stripping and protruding objects must be removed.
12. The hood CAN NOT be welded; however, trunk may be welded with a 16 inch diameter hole cut in the middle. Trunks must be completely empty. Trunk to be welded with 3/8 Rod or 3 inch wide straps that are 1/8 inch thick. No straps to the rear window or bumper. No metal in rain channel.
13. You are allowed 2 batteries. They must be covered and secured.
14. If a door comes open during any heat or feature, the car will be disqualified.
15. Freon must be removed from air conditioning prior to the derby.
16. Antifreeze must be removed from vehicle. WATER ONLY.
17. Safety bars are allowed. Bars can not connect to the frame or the floor. They can only run 12 inches behind driver’s seat. Roll over bars are OK, but no halo bars. ROLL BAR MUST BE STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN, NOT SLANTED BACK.
18. You are allowed only 2 all thread rods, 1 placed on each side of the radiator. No more than 1 inch in diameter and 4 inches through the front of the hood. The hood can be fastened in no more than 6 places. No wire in front of the radiator. If threaded rod goes through the hood, then you must have only ½ a hood for fire safety reasons.
19. You can tilt front end and tuck rear of car. No added metal in rain channel, no straps to bumper.
20. You can use all thread in place of stock body mount bolts, with a 1 inch gap between body and frame. They CANNOT go all the way through the frame.
21. Front bumper not to exceed 21 inches to the ground. Rear frame no lower than 16 inches to the ground. At the 2nd body bolt from the bumper.
22. Tire restrictions: No tires smaller than 24 inches in height on big cars and 20 inches on small cars.
23. Call with questions on repair of frame.
24. Station wagons MUST remove all of rear seat and decking.
25. Any additional welding/plating/bracing done to vehicle, which is not specified in theses rules, will deem vehicle unacceptable to pass inspection.
26. Tech has decision on any demo car.
RULES FOR LARGE CARS ONLY
A. 80 and newer only, including station wagons.
B. Automobiles will be permitted to swap motors and run with out their original motor.
C. You can either plate frame humps over the rear end OR run a distributor protector. Hump plates can be 22 inches long and conform to the frame. Distributor protector can be 10 inch square and bolted to the rear of heads OR bell housing bolts. NO KICKERS! G.M. Cars may have a hump plate and distributor protector.
RULES FOR SMALL CARS ONLY
A. Any stock automobile, including station wagons are allowed with 107 wheel base or less.
B. Automobiles will be allowed to swap engines. NO V-8 except outlaw car.
COMPETITION RULES
1. Only the driver of the car and one person will be allowed around during the inspection.
2. LAST 3 REMAINING CARS MUST SWAP HITS. NO DOUBLE TEAMING.
3. NO DELIBERATE HITTING ON THE DRIVERS DOOR. AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION.
4. NO SANDBAGGING. ONE WARNING – THE NEXT TIME YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!
5. Car that does not move from one position for at least 1 minutes will be disqualified.
6. One fire will cause a disqualification.
7. You must stay in your car, unless told otherwise by a derby official. IF YOU LEAVE YOUR CAR FOR ANY OTHER REASON EXCEPT FOR EMERGENCIES, THEN THE DRIVER WILL BE BARRED FROM FUTURE MOTORSPORTS EVENTS AT THE MERCER COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS.
8. Any drivers fighting will be cause for automatic disqualification.
9. Disqualifications will result in NO prize money or trophy.
10. THE MERCER COUNTY FAIRBOARD/DERBY KING OFFICIALS WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCIDENTS, FIRE OR THEFT.
11. Nobody allowed on the track before, during or after a heat has taken place, except the driver and track officials!
12. By participating, drivers and crews agree to these official rules and that the decisions of the DERBY KING OFFICIALS will be final in all matters relating to the Demolition Derby.
