I. GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION
- Drivers and owners must sign a release form at the time of the car's inspection and registration.
- Only licensed drivers are permitted to drive. NO PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS ALLOWED.
- You must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
- The use of intoxicating beverages prior to or during the derby will disqualify the car and the crew.
- The derby will run in heats, with the top 3 heat winners moving into the feature. $35.00 to the top 3 cars.
- The judges decisions will be final.
- Entry fee will be $50.00. The derby will begin promptly at 7:00 PM. (Driver ONLY will be reimbursed for gate admission)!
- The winner of the heat may substitute another car in the feature heat if he can prove his car is unable to compete. The substitute car must be a car that has already run in a previous heat.
- Check in and registration will begin at 2:00 PM. Cars are accepted and inspected until 6:30 PM! From 6:30 to 7:00 PM, late entries and re-inspection fees of $15.00 additional per car will be assessed (this money is non-refundable) - ONLY 1 re-inspection allowed per car. NO EXCEPTIONS UNLESS APPROVED BY TRACK MANAGEMENT. Note - Any cars falling into the late category will be assigned a heat by track officials (these cars will not be in the drawing for heats).
- Any car that DOES NOT pass inspection, must be loaded back onto trailer.
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cars in any heat/feature may be re-inspected by the head tech official for any reason at any time. Any car found to be illegal at this time of inspection, will be disqualified and other participants will be moved up in their respective slots.
- No previously inspected cars will be allowed to leave the pit area until their particular heat has been run.
- Personnel working in the announcer's booth also are legal to 'flag' a car and be a part of the judging of the derby. NOTE: No one except track officials will be allowed in the announcer's booth during the event! NO EXCEPTIONS!
II. OFFICIAL RULES FOR BOTH BIG AND SMALL CARS
- Any stock automobile is allowed, including station wagons. No imperials.
- Safety belts and approved helmets are required. These will be checked.
- All glass must be removed before car enters fairgrounds. No broken glass will be permitted inside the car.
- Maximum of 5 gallons of gas will be allowed.
- Gas tank must be removed and placed in the back seat of the vehicle. Under no circumstances will the gas tank be allowed in the passenger seat. TANK MUST BE SECURED AND COVERED. THIS WILL BE CHECKED.
- No special bumpers, trailer hitches, or reinforcements will be allowed. No bumpers reinforced with concrete will be allowed.
- You are allowed to weld the bumper to the shock or you may wire on the bumper.
- Car must have a "body bounce" not a tire bounce!
- All doors must be fastened shut with wire, weld or straps.
- Windshield bar is highly recommended, but not required.
- Fenders and bumpers may be cut for wheel clearance only. Excessive cutting will disqualify the car.
- All chrome stripping and protruding objects must be removed.
- The hood CAN NOT be welded; however, trunk may be welded with a 16 inch diameter hole cut in the middle. Trunks must be completely empty.
- You are allowed 2 batteries. They must be covered and secured.
- If a door comes open during any heat or feature, the car will be disqualified.
- Freon must be removed from air conditioning and hoses removed prior to the derby.
- Antifreeze must be removed from vehicle. WATER ONLY.
- Safety bars are allowed. Bars can not connect to the frame or the floor.
- An identification number on roof of car is recommended.
- Any additional welding/plating/bracing done to vehicle (such as on frames, springs, etc.) which IS NOT specified in this rule package, will deem the vehicle unacceptable to pass inspection.
- ALL vehicles must abide by these rules to pass inspection, even previously used Demo cars.
III. RULES FOR LARGE CARS ONLY
- 1980 and newer models only, including station wagons. NO IMPERIALS.
- Automobiles will be permitted to swap motors and run without their original motor.
- No tire restrictions.
- Front and rear bumpers should not exceed 21 inches from the ground to the bottom of the bumper, and the minimum allowable bumper height is 15 inches from the ground to the top of the bumper. If no rear bumper, the bumper brackets must not exceed 17 inches.
- Leave all VIN numbers in place. DO NOT try to change them.
- Station wagons must remove all portions of the rear seat and decking.
- You are allowed only 2 all-thread rods - 1 placed on each side of the radiator and they may not protrude more than 4 inches above the hood.
- NO "tucking" (wedging) of the rear of the vehicle.
IV. RULES FOR SMALL CARS ONLY
- Any stock automobile, 1980 model & newer, including station wagons are allowed. 107 wheel base or less unibody. AMC acceptable.
- Automobiles will be allowed to swap engines. 4 cylinders ONLY.
- Snow tires will be allowed on the rear of automobile only, unless the vehicle is front wheel drive. Tire size has to match original equipment of car manufacturer. NO 15 inch truck tires allowed.
- Front and rear bumpers can be 21 inches from the ground to the bottom of the bumper and the minimum bumper height is 15 inches from the ground to the top of the bumper.
- You are allowed only 2 all-thread rods - 1 placed on each side of the radiator and they may not protrude more than 4 inches above the hood.
- No "tucking" (wedging) of the rear of the vehicle.
- Leave all VIN numbers in place. DO NOT try to change them.
V. COMPETITION RULES
- Only the driver of the car will be allowed in or around the car during the inspection.
- Drivers may maneuver forward and backwards. Contact must be made with an "active car". LAST 3 REMAINING CARS MUST SWAP HITS. NO DOUBLE TEAMING.
- NO DELIBERATE HITTING ON THE DRIVERS DOOR. DELIBERATE HITTING ON THE DRIVERS DOOR WILL BE AN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION.
- NO SANDBAGGING. ONE WARNING - THE NEXT TIME YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!
- Cars whose engine quits or does not move from one position for at least 2 minutes will be disqualified.
- One fire will be put out, the second one will cause a disqualification. NOTE: The Fire Department has final say on any fire as to whether or not the car may continue in the heat/feature.
- You must stay in your car, unless told otherwise by a derby official. IF YOU LEAVE YOUR CAR FOR ANY OTHER REASON EXCEPT FOR EMERGENCIES, THEN THE DRIVER WILL BE BARRED FROM FUTURE MOTORSPORTS EVENTS AT THE MERCER COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS.
- Any drivers fighting will be cause for automatic disqualification.
- Disqualifications will result in NO prize money or trophy.
- THE FAIR BOARD WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCIDENTS, FIRE OR THEFT.
- NO TRACK OFFICIAL WILL BE ALLOWED TO ASSIST IN THE REMOVAL OF ANY CAR OFF OF THE WALLS UNTIL HEAT OR FEATURE IS COMPLETED.
- Nobody is allowed on the track before, during or after a heat has taken place, except the driver and track officials!
